Already holding the top spot in many people’s minds, Honda’s year of building reliable SUV’s, Trucks, and cars has simply been amazing. Not only have the 2014 models proven to be incredibly reliable and safe, but also highly economical.

Honda has successfully placed 13 Honda and Acura’s in CarMD’s Top 100 vehicles of the year from 2004 to 2014, including the highly acclaimed 2012 Civic. According to CarMD’s reports, Honda has been the highest selling vehicle manufacturer in 2014 with only 6.7% of problems seen.

Even though the average repair costs of Honda is $388.34, which is $82 higher than Hyundai, the vehicle’s Honda has produced throughout 2014 have been some of the best and most reliable. And, it is because of this improvement in reliability that Honda shifted from no.5 to no.1 from last year’s ratings.

2.     Hyundai Motor Company

Coming second on our list is none other than Hyundai. Even though the vehicle manufacturer has been down from no.1 from last year’s ratings, many people are pleased to know that Hyundai is working hard in maintaining its image of the most reliable brand.

The company has been successful in placing 9 vehicles in the top 100, out of which the most popular of all are the Sonata models that appear thrice in the list. There is no doubt about it that even though 2014 has been the worst year regarding recalls, Hyundai worked hard in maintaining its image with the least number of cars sent back.

Only 2.2% of Hyundai vehicles have been noticed to have problems, which is better than Honda. Additionally, the average repair cost of Hyundai vehicles is only $306.34.

3.     Toyota Motor Corporation

Down from no.2 to no.3 from last year’s reliability ratings, Toyota still remains one of the most reliable car brands of all time. The company has never hit the bottom of the list and even though it outclassed other brands in terms of fuel economy, the brand still holds its reputation in the reliability scale.

Toyota has successfully placed more than 21 vehicles in the top 10, including the 2012 Camry at No.1. But, the only reason why Toyota has shifted from no.2 to 3 is due to its high index rating which is of 1.48 (0.86).

8.7% of Toyota’s have noticeable problems and it seems that if there is a trouble, having a Toyota repaired is rather expensive. The average repair cost of having a Toyota repaired is $486.93, which is the highest of all vehicle manufacturers.

4.     General Motors Corporation

Shifting from no.3 to no.4 is the General Motors Corporation. It is rather amazing, but since GM did have a lot of recalls this year, who can blame the critics? Nevertheless, GM has still maintained its image of reliable cars and was able to place 5 of its vehicles in the top 100.

One of the main reasons that GM has suffered in the reliability ratings is due to its highest light reports or problems seen. 19.6% of GM vehicles are reported to have problems and this has caused an increase in the overall index ratings.

5.     Ford Motor Company

Even though ford has no cars in the Top 10 of CarMD’s list, the company has been able to place approximately 24 of its vehicles on the top 100 list. Some of the most popular vehicles include the Mustang, Edge SUV, and of course Ford Focus.

While Ford’s vehicles don’t often require repairs, just a few fixes can be a little costly. Approximately 8.6% of Ford owners were required to shell out $448 for monthly maintenance tasks such as changing the spark plugs and ignition coils.

Additionally, 17.2% of Ford vehicles were noted to have problems. Nevertheless, the company was able to shift from no.6 to no.5 in this year’s reliability ratings.

6.     Chrysler Group LLC

From no.4 straight down to no.6, it seems that 2014 wasn’t exactly a good year for Chrysler. Approximately 17.2% of vehicles were noticed to have problems and this had lead to the increase in overall car index ratings.

Additionally, from 14 vehicles in the top 100, this year Nissan has only been able to place four vehicles in the list. Nevertheless, the vehicle still maintains its reputation of reliable cars.

9.     Mazda Motor Corporation

Missing from last year listings, Mazda has stepped up by posting the lowest repair costs of all vehicle manufacturers. One of the best selling vehicles of Mazda this year has been the Mazda 3 which is a compact car that is highly economical, safe and budget-friendly.

10.  BMW Automobile Company

BMW is perhaps the only luxury automaker in the list and has only one vehicle in the top 100. It was missing in last year’s list, but has made its way into the top 10 reliable car list this year. Only 1.2% of vehicles have been reported to have problems and the average repair cost per vehicle is only $355.08.
