Overview:

2017 Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2

The Lamborghini Huracan is one of the superpowers of performance cars. The immense naturally aspirated V10 engine lying inside the Huracan has tons of power. It can take along anything that comes in its way.

Well, being a superpower is a luxury, but at times you need to step down to balance the competition. The 610 hp 5.2 L V10 is an attraction for eyes, mind and ears. But the buyer needs to align the budget before getting into a car.

Ultimately, Lamborghini, the beats producer, brought in a detuned and de-wheeled version of Huracan. It has earned a lot of fame and even got some more response from the consumers than the bigger Huracan. It is the Huracan LP 580-2.

The Huracan, with all wheels active and 610 horses is presently available for as low as $279,985. Reduction of 30 horses and two wheels, brought the price down to $233,985. Well for the spyder edition you have to add almost $30,000 more.

In 2015, the Italian counterparts of Lamborghini began to research and develop something modest that could fit in the hot mod market. The grand tourers were actually making their way up to the consumers. But the supercars started to lag behind.

Lamborghini sensed the market trend and introduced the Huracan LP 580-2 in 2016. Unlike its siblings, the Huracan LP 580-2 have not participated in motorsports yet. While, Lamborghinis are famous because of sports, movies and music.

Performance:

Hood of 2017 Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2

The Huracan LP 580-2 is meant to balance the power. Well, this Huracan derivative gets the same naturally aspirated 5.2 L V10 engine. Here this engine is rated at 572 hp delivering 398 lb – ft of torque. The title 580 implies to the power of the car measured in CV.

Well, this powertrain is mated with a 7 – speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The same transmission is part of the all – wheel – drive configuration as well. But here this system performs well because of the reduced wheels. The gearing ratios are subtle to make this ride drive as required. While in the AWDs it seems like underpowered.

It is really hard to find performance and handling together in superpower rides. If they are good performers, they lack somewhere with the handling. The lateral grip or the braking lacks to a major extent. But in the case of Huracan LP 580-2, the handling is doing absolutely fine. The oversteered handling with giant brake calipers, the handling has reached to a new level for Lamborghini.

Well, the Lamborghini lovers won’t like the two wheel drive car from this company. Rather, they would call it an underpowered car. Or something like a mishap of production. But believe it, the Huracan LP 580-2 is one of the finest cars of Lamborghini. It’s not a rough rider. Instead, it is a car that drives quite smoothly. We haven’t got any soothing Lambo yet besides this car.

It was definite that we aren’t going to get the actual Huracan figures. But we were not even demoralized with the power of Huracan LP 580-2. The coupe displayed some fantastic show of power after launching from 0 – 62 mph in 3.4 seconds. While the spyder took 3.6 seconds.

Exterior:

Too much of exterior redesigning was to be done after removing the front – wheel – drive configuration from Huracan. And it was not just about the two wheels, it was the whole system. Further, a lot of weight distribution has to be plotted once again because of the removal of the whole system.

Well, Lamborghini has done it pretty nicely. The front fascia of the car has been redesigned with almost a new nose added to the Huracan. Further, to maintain a pleasant stability on the car, the weight was distributed to 40:60 (front: rear). Overall, 73 – 75 lbs of weight has been lost by the baby Huracan.

The Pirelli P Zero Tires have been revamped to perform on 19-inch alloy wheels and lesser weight. Thanks to Pirelli for providing a good drifting ground to the Huracan LP 580-2. By the way, the 20-inch wheels are even available for this Huracan.

Features:

Features of 2017 Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2

Where is the infotainment system of Huracan LP 580-2? There is nothing like a touchscreen on the center stack. There are some vehicle information gauges, some performance switches, weather control, a couple of knobs with few switches surrounding them and a gear lever. But there is no infotainment system anywhere on the center panel.

We initially thought that Audi has taken away the infotainment system out of Lamborghinis. But we were wrong, as the system sits behind the steering wheel. There is a 12.3-inch cluster display with amazing graphic design and amazingly responsive processors. This system uses the Nvidia Tegra 3. Well, there is Bluetooth streaming, navigation and multimedia supported on this system.

Safety:

The Huracan LP 580-2 has plenty of airbags available for the occupants. Further, it has side protection system to reduce the impact of collision from the sides. While there is even a collapsible rear surface which protects the engine when any collision takes place. However, the front fascia even features the same to protect the occupants in a head-on collision.

The active safety features the electronic stability, anti-lock braking system and traction control.

Competitors:

McLaren 720S

The 4.0 L V8 driven McLaren 720S competes the Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2. Well, this V8 McLaren 720S has 710 horses to offer and makes the 0 – 62 mph run in no more than 2.8 seconds.

Well, Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 offers a delicate driving environment than the other Lamborghinis. It’s pretty sure that the AWD Lamborghini lovers would call it a loser, but the tech freaks would love the way it drifts.
